Video: Amanda Lemos gets shocking submission win over Michelle Waterson-Gomez at UFC Long Island

Michelle Waterson-Gomez took on Amanda Lemos at UFC Long Island.

The UFC Long Island card has been absolutely bonkers. In what is a contestant for the best submission of the night, Amanda Lemos got back in the win column following her loss to Jessica Andrade by submitting Michelle Waterson-Gomez with a guillotine choke.

This was Waterson-Gomez’s first fight in over a year, and she looked good initially. She kept range with her kicks, was catching Lemos with some good counter strikes and it was a close fight. Yet, Lemos was able to catch Waterson-Gomez and get the tap, a tap that may have been a bit odd for fans at home.

Michelle Waterson-Gomez earns the respect by admitting the tap

Waterson-Gomez was very active in Lemos’ guillotine and at a point nearly seemed to be about to pop her head out, but after settling on the mat, Waterson-Gomez tapped on Lemos’ back, on the opposite side of the referee’s vision; meaning he missed the tap. Lemos instantly let go of the hold, but the ref didn’t immediately stop the fight.

Waterson-Gomez popped up, however, and even though the fight was still live, admitted she tapped to the referee, ending the fight. It was reminiscent of the Fabricio Werdum and Renan Ferreira fight from PFL’s 2021 season, where Ferreira tapped out of the sight of the referee and then ended up TKO’ing Werdum. That fight ended up being a No Contest, however.

This time, however, Waterson-Gomez did the honorable and noble thing, which should earn her the fans’ respect, despite the loss.
