PFL 4: Clay Collard thinks Anthony Pettis is getting ‘easiest’ fights this season (Video)
Clay Collard is sounding off on the “easy” matchups that former opponent Antony Pettis is receiving in this year’s PFL season.
The 2022 PFL season is in full swing and the next event is just weeks away. PFL 4 is set to take place on July 17 live from the Overtime Elite Arena in Atlanta, Georgia. This event will feature matchups in the lightweight and light heavyweight divisions. Headlining the card will be Clay Collard taking on Alexander Martinez.
Leading up to his main event bout, Collard sat down with FanSided’s Amy Kaplan to discuss this season and to give his thought on some of his possible and past opponents.
“With the tournament setting you know, I would have much rather have six points instead of three,” Collard explained. “I could win both my fights and they could both be all ‘Fight of the year’ candidates and I can still not make it into the tournament because they will take knockout six points more than they do two decision wins six points, which I feel like if you got to knockout and a loss, I feel like the guy who kept winning and should get the spot but yeah, I mean, I love a good fight, that’s why I’m in this industry is because I like beating up these tough guys. I’m always looking for the toughest guy.”
This time around Collard is taking on Martinez, who also holds a win this year so far. Collard believes he is getting the toughest matchups, and he can’t say the same for some of the other fighters in the division.
“I want to get those points man, I don’t want to you know, they give Anthony Pettis the easiest guy right out the gate, and in my opinion, now they’re giving them to Jeremy Stephens,” Collard said. “They’re giving me all the tough guys you know, and I’ll gladly take it and I do want to get a finish. It’s been a while since I’ve put somebody away and I want to prove that I am able to do that. I want to earn my points and I want to earn my spot in the tournament. I think I’m one of the baddest dudes in the division right now as far as PFL goes, and I don’t want to get it stolen over points when I do believe I’m the best fighter.”
Collard and company will look to make it through this event with enough points heading into the PFL playoffs set for later this year.
