3 must-have fights for UFC Paris

The UFC will be having its first fight night in France this year. With having eight fighters from France on the card, they’ll undoubtedly be looking to get a fight.

For the first time, the UFC will be heading to Paris, France.

On Sept. 3, 2022, UFC will host a fight night at the Accor Arena. UFC president Dana White said in a press release on Thursday, “We’ve been working on getting into France for nearly a decade and WE’RE COMING!!! I’m so excited to hold our first event in Paris this September. It will be an unbelievable night of fights and an epic historic event for the athletes and fans.”

There are multiple fighters from France within the UFC. Those names include Francis Ngannou, Cyril Gane, Manon Fiorot, Nassourdine Imavov, and more. These native fighters of France and many more are looking to compete on UFC’s first-ever card in France. With that being said, here are three must-have fights for UFC Paris.

Three must-have fights for UFC Paris

1. Ciryl Gane vs. Tai Tuivasa

Two of the top three heavyweights clash in what would likely be the main event of a historic card. The French native Gane is the current No. 1 ranked heavyweight in the UFC. He holds a record of 10-1 where he’s won seven of his fights by a finish. Gane was on a 10-fight win streak until Francis Ngannou defeated him at UFC 270. With the former interim champion looking to bounce back, Gane must defeat the fan-favorite Tai Tuivasa. Tuivasa is the current No. 3 ranked UFC heavyweight. He holds an MMA record of 15-3 where he’s ended 14 of his victories by knockout.

This fight would give us two strikers fighting for a potential championship opportunity. Gane would have the speed advantage while Tuivasa would have the power advantage. Would Tuivasa be able to catch Gane and knock him out? Or would Gane’s footwork and speed be too much for Tuivasa to figure out?

2. Robert Whittaker vs. Marvin Vettori

This fight was originally scheduled to take place at UFC 275 in Singapore. However, due to an injury to Robert Whittaker and Marvin Vettori being unable to find a replacement, the UFC is looking to reschedule this fight. There is not a better location to host this matchup.

Whittaker is one of the best middleweights to ever grace the Octagon. The only fighter who’s been able to defeat him in the past eight years is the current middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya. Whittaker holds an MMA record of 24-6 where he’s beaten the likes of Yoel Romero, Jared Cannonier, and Derek Brunson. Standing across him is the No. 3 ranked Vettori. Vettori holds an MMA record of 18-5-1 where he’s beaten the likes of Paulo Costa, Jack Hermansson, and Kevin Holland. This would be a big-time fight as there are potential title implications in play. It will be super interesting to see how this fight goes as these are two very well-rounded fighters.

3. Manon Fiorot vs Katlyn Chookagian

After defeating Amanda Ribas at UFC Vegas 54, Michael Bisping asked Katlyn Chookagian who she wanted next for an opponent. Chookagian responded with, “Any girl I haven’t fought. I’d like Meisha Tate if she wins, Alexa Grasso, and that French chick can get it.” With UFC now heading to Paris, Chookagian can fight Manon Fiorot in France.

The French native holds an MMA record of 9-1 where she’s won six of her fights by knockout. After losing her first-ever MMA fight, Fiorot has gone on to win nine straight, which includes four in the UFC. Chookagian would be her toughest challenge in the UFC. She’s one of the best ever in women’s MMA. She holds an MMA record of 18-4; 11-4 in the UFC. Chookagian has impressive victories over Viviane Araujo, Lauren Murphy, Jennifer Maia, and many more. Only the best of the best have been able to defeat Chookagian. It would be a massive statement if Fiorot beat her in front of her own home crowd.
