3 fight cards to look forward to in 2022 that aren’t the UFC

Fights happen outside of the UFC and in 2022 these are three to get excited for.

If you’re a fight fan you might be a fight fan regardless of promotion. A lot of us on here are. It doesn’t matter if it’s Bellator, UFC, Jake Paul putting the ‘wood’ in Tyrone Woodley, or watching people fight in a frigin’ triangle. We like combat sports in all of their shapes and sizes from the UFC to Karate Combat and anywhere in between.

That’s why we want to give you some options beyond the UFC to get excited about as the calendar changes over from 2021 to 2022.

We’re focusing on the beginning of the year for the most part. There are other cards that people should be hyped for but until more fights get announced, right now we’re sticking with these three. That doesn’t mean these are the only three to get excited about, just some of our favorites.

Three non-UFC cards to look forward to in 2022

The debut of the PFL Challenger Series

The first of the PFC challenger series will debut on Friday, Feb. 18, 2022, exclusively on FuboTV, and will feature up-and-coming fighters who will compete for a spot on PFL’s season roster. There will be one contract winner given per show (at least) and the last two shows will offer up a second chance to select fighters to get on the main roster. It looks to be a show to help create stars for PFL and introduce fans to new faces for 2022.

Eagle FC 44: Spong vs. Kharitonov

Eagle FC, owned and run by Khabib Nurmagomedov will host their first of many US shows on Jan. 28. In the main event, former PRIDE, Strikeforce, and Bellator heavyweight Sergei Kharitonov takes on undefeated boxing and MMA fighter Tyrone Spong. The un-retired Ray Borg is also on this card, taking on Cody Gibson. The promotion also announce new signee Kevin Lee, to debut perhaps in March. Stay tuned to FanSided MMA for details on the event.

The Bellator Bantamweight Grand Prix

Sometime in 2022 the Bellator Bantamweight Grand Prix will begin and will feature the current Bellator bantamweight champion in Sergio Pettis, as well as Kyoji Horiguchi, Juan Archuleta, Raufeon Stots, Patchy Mix, Magomed Magomedov, Leandro Higo, and James Gallagher. No show or matchups have been announced as of yet but that doesn’t mean we can’t start getting exciting. Bellator’s Grand Prix’s are always a draw, this one should be no different.
