UFC Vegas 45: Derrick Lewis secures UFC knockout crown after folding Chris Daukas

Derrick Lewis looked unbothered, unchallenged, and unmatched as he knocked out Chris Daukaus in the main event of UFC Vegas 45

The UFC has a new knockout leader and his name is Derrick Lewis.

Lewis ended the last UFC Card of the calendar year in the only way he knew possible: violently knocking out his opponent. Chris Daukas came into the Octagon confidently, and even looked to have a game plan for slowing down and competing with “The Black Beast” but alas, once Lewis let his hands go, it was all over.

Lewis weighed-In thirty pounds heavier than Daukaus, creating an obvious power advantage that he used to threaten Daukaus and back him up the entire fight. When the fight got close enough to the cage to prevent Daukaus from running, Lewis unloaded the tank, folded his opponent, and became the sole owner of the most knockouts in UFC history.

Derrick Lewis likely put himself in a position to fight for the heavyweight championship in 2022

Derrick Lewis failed to secure the interim heavyweight title in 2021, being finished by Ciryl Gane. However, after a dominant victory to cap off the year, Lewis could very easily have put himself in a position to challenge the winner of UFC 270’s main event between Gane and Francis Ngannou.

UFC Vegas 45 takes place on Saturday, Dec. 18, 2021, live from the UFC APEX in Las Vegas, NV. Follow along with FanSided MMA, who is on-site, for all your news and highlights.
