Raquel Pennington thinks Julianna Pena’s mom comments were ‘extremely frustrating’

After submitting Macy Chiasson in the prelims of UFC Vegas 45, Raquel Pennington had some rough criticism for the new UFC women’s featherweight champion

Securing her third straight victory at UFC Vegas 45, Raquel Pennington’s eyes are starting to look upward towards the UFC women’s featherweight title. Having come up in the sport alongside Amanda Nunes, Pennington was looking forward to an opportunity to fight her old friend for the title. However, after Julianna Pena shocked the MMA world by beating Amanda Nunes for the title at UFC 269, Pennington’s goals have changed.

Pennington has been complimentary of Nunes her entire UFC career, taking every opportunity to highlight her great run as champion and her dominance in the Octagon. That friendly and complimentary attitude, however, does not appear to extend to the new champion. “Rocky” took time after her victory over Macy Chiasson to let her thoughts known on Pena.

“I have my overall, own opinion of Julianna [Pena],” Pennington said. “I mean, we went on The Ultimate Fighter together and it stems from way back then. I don’t know man, I just feel like Amanda [Nunes] was a true champion, a professional champion, and I feel like Julianna, she definitely believes in herself and everything, but half the s*** that’s coming out of her mouth is extremely frustrating. Like with the LGBT community and the whole pregnancy thing, being the first mom champion.”

Raquel Pennington could earn a title fight in 2022

After a dominant victory at UFC Vegas 45, Pennington is inching her way into the top five ranked women’s featherweights in the UFC, giving her claim at a title fight. There are significant obstacles standing in her way, the most notable of which is Holly Holm, who has beaten Pennington in both of their prior encounters.

UFC Vegas 45 takes place on Saturday, Dec. 18, 2021, live from the UFC APEX in Las Vegas, NV. Follow along with FanSided MMA, who is on-site, for all your news and highlights.
