Rafael Fiziev finishes former teammate Brad Riddell at UFC Vegas 44 (Video)

UFC lightweight contender Rafael Fiziev earned a late knockout over his friend and former teammate, Brad Riddell at UFC Vegas 44.

It’s a difficult task to battle in combat with your friends, but Rafael Fiziev was able to take on the challenge and earn an impressive knockout over former Tiger Muay Thai teammate Brad Riddell at UFC Vegas 44.

Fiziev and Riddell put on a striking clinic for as long as the fight lasted. Both men had plenty of moments in the octagon, with each of them exploding with sudden combinations.

The difference in the fight was Fiziev’s movement and speed. He controlled the pace of the fight from start to finish and pressured Riddell throughout the bout.

In Round 3, Fiziev landed a nasty wheel kick that made Riddell freeze up, and referee Herb Dean jumped in and stopped the fight as Riddell fell to the canvas.

Rafael Fiziev is a name to watch in the lightweight division

Riddell and Fiziev fought despite the two being former teammates and admittedly, very close friends. Despite their relationship, they decided to put it aside for an opportunity of a lifetime for both men at UFC Vegas 44.

Fiziev had emerged as one of the top lightweight prospects in MMA after four-straight wins in the UFC. After his disappointing UFC debut resulted in a knockout loss to Magomed Mustafaev, he rebounded nicely with wins over the likes of Bobby Green and Marc Diakiese.

Fiziev’s win over Green, in particular, put his name on the map in many UFC fans’ eyes.

Riddell had equally impressive performances against Mustafaev and most recently, Drew Dober at UFC 263. He was undefeated in his young  UFC career entering the Fiziev fight and remains one of the top up-and-comers at 155 pounds.

Fiziev’s win over Riddell puts him in line for another rising contender in the stacked UFC lightweight division.

UFC Vegas 44 takes place on Saturday, Dec. 4, 2021, live from the UFC APEX in Las Vegas, NV. Follow along with FanSided MMA, who is on-site, for all your news and highlights.
