Derek Campos defeats Brian Vera in Triad Combat war (Video)

Boxer Brian Vera and MMA fighter Derek Campos threw down at Triller’s Triad Combat debut event. They went to war, but MMA beat boxing.

What happens when a badly washed boxer and MMA fighter step into a triangle to fight in a bizarre combat sports crossover event called Triad Combat? Apparently, they smash each other to bits in an entertaining fight.

MMA fighter Derek Campos got the better of boxer Brian Vera on Saturday, Nov. 27, from Globe Life Field in Arlington, TX. Campos owned Vera in round 1.

Campos (20-11) dropped Vera in round 1 with a huge left hook. Vera (28-17, 18 KOs) survived the round but was in bad shape.

Vera went down again in round 2 from a Campos combination, but Campos hit Vera while on the canvas. The judge deducted a point from Campos and didn’t score a knockdown of Vera.

Shockingly, Vera woke up and made it a competitive fight from there on out. Vera and Campos made it through seven grueling rounds, but Campos won by majority decision.

Vera owns wins in boxing over Sergio Mora and Andy Lee, but that was long ago. At 39 years old, Vera is a shell of what he once was. He got one more shot at combat and made the most of it, but let’s hope he stops fighting before he gets seriously hurt.

Campos lost his last two fights in Bellator, but he showed a lot of heart in Triad Combat. Expect to see him again in the new promotion, as long as Triller continues with its new fighting brand.
