At the end of another PFL season, Kayla Harrison stays unbeaten, remains the face of the promotion and keeps her case for the title of “Baddest Woman on the Planet.” Harrison is now a two-time PFL world champion following her METHOD victory over Taylor Guardado in the main event of the 2021 PFL Championships card.

After making her MMA debut with the PFL in 2018, and dominating her way to the inaugural PFL women’s lightweight title in 2019, Harrison advanced to this year’s finals with first-round finishes of Mariana Morais and Cindy Dandois before stopping Genah Fabian in the semifinals.

Guardado, meanwhile, advanced with decision wins over Helena Kolesnyk and Laura Sanchez in the regular season before topping Morais by decision in the semis.

Unlike the rest of Harrison’s opponents this season, Guardado got out of the first round — but it wasn’t without a dominant performance by Harrison in that round. Guardado got a good start with a flurry of strikes, but Harrison’s judo and grappling experience went on full display. This included a hard judo throw executed by Harrison in the final minute of the first round.

Harrison completely controlled Guardado throughout the second round, eventually scoring an armbar submission with one minute left in the second round.

This also marked the last fight on Harrison’s PFL deal, as she prepares to enter a free agency period with some thoughts on whether or not she’d make the jump to the UFC.
