Patriots great Ty Law on defense against Cowboys: ‘Shameful’

Patriots legend and Hall-of-Famer Ty Law saw the New England defense give up over 500 yards to the Cowboys and was none too pleased about it.

Pro Football Hall of Famer and New England Patriots great Ty Law knows a thing or two about great defense. By the same token, he also knows bad defense when he sees it. And that’s what he saw from his former team in Week 6 against the Dallas Cowboys.

New England gave up 567 yards of total offense on Sunday at Gillette Stadium in an eventual overtime loss to Dallas.

Law unloaded about his displeasure from what he was seeing from the Patriots defense with some strong words. Appearing on the Greg Hill Show on WEEI in Boston, the Hall-of Famer didn’t hold back (h/t Mass Live):

“I’m really upset about what’s going on,” Law said. “Because you don’t let people come in there and walk all over you, throw the ball like that anytime they want to. I mean, that’s shameful.”

The Patriots defense has given Ty Law good reason to be upset

Later in the interview, Law suggested that the Patriots might need to pursue an aggressive rebuild and restructure of the defense in the offseason. And as you’d expect from the former NFL defensive back, he’s looking for the secondary to receive plenty of attention.

Sitting at a paltry 2-4 to open the 2021 season, it’s no wonder that Patriots fans (and now former players) are upset. Their defense hasn’t been the same stifling unit they were in 2019, especially with Stephon Gilmore out and then traded.

Combined with an offense that’s relying on a rookie quarterback, New England is searching for some answers. By what Law is unhappily saying, though, those answers may not be available to the franchise until the offseason.
