Henry Corrales admits performance at 135 ‘wasn’t really there’ ahead of 145-pound return.
Henry Corrales started 2021 testing out his luck at 135 pounds and when that bout with Johnny Campbell didn’t turn out as planned he went back to his home at 145 pounds. Now, on the eve of his return to featherweight Correales reflects on what went wrong there.
“I went down there for an opportunity in that division and, yeah, like you mentioned, I’m coming off a loss,” Corrales told FanSided. “Just seems like it wasn’t really there. So yeah, just moving back up to featherweight seems more appropriate for me.”
Henry Corrales praises Johnny Campbell for win
Corrales was submitted by rear-naked choke in the second round at Bellator 258 in May. And despite the chance to make excuses for his performance, he doesn’t.
“Johnny Campbell did his job,” he said. “You know sometimes it’s just f–king not your night.”
He’ll return to the cage on Saturday, Oct. 15 to face Vladyslav Parubchenko on the main card. The Russian opponent has a strong submission background of which Corrales is not ignoring.
“It’s pretty obvious just by looking at his record and watching film on him,” he said. “He’s very heavily grappler-based. We’ve been training appropriately for that.”
