UFC 266: Valentina Shevchenko is still adding elements to her game during dominant streak (Video)

UFC flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko is still adding different elements to her game during her run of dominant performances.

Valentina Shevchenko is one of the most dominant fighters in UFC history but isn’t getting complacent when it comes to learning and improving her skillset in the octagon.

Shevchenko will face Lauren Murphy in her sixth title defense since earning the belt at UFC 231. She defeated Joanna Jedrzejczyk for the then-vacant flyweight title and has looked nearly flawless ever since.

Many around the MMA community believe that Shevchenko is running out of options after cleaning out the division, but she feels that the flyweight title picture is in a great spot in the middle of her title reign.

During her UFC 266 pre-fight press conference, Shevchenko explained why evolving her game is essential for her success.

“It’s very important for me to bring something new to the octagon every time,” Shevchenko said. “I want to show the beautiful technique of mixed martial arts. Anyone can street fight, but I want to show the next level of the sport. To show the artistic element of the fight game is different.”

Valentina Shevchenko has defended her flyweight title five times

Shevchenko has always been known for her devastating striking but has evolved in the grappling aspect since earning the belt. After many believed Jessica Andrade would be her toughest test at UFC 261, she beat her at her own game and finished the fight on the canvas.

Shevchenko is still improving with every octagon appearance, which is terrifying for the rest of the flyweight division.

UFC 266 takes place on Saturday, Sept. 25, live from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, NV. Follow along with FanSided MMA who will be on-site for all your news and highlights.
