DWCS: CJ Vergara ‘awestruck’ after UFC contract-winning knockout (Video)

Newly-signed UFC flyweight CJ Vergara couldn’t believe how things played out with his first-round knockout on Dana White’s Contender Series.

It didn’t take long for CJ Vergara to secure a UFC contract from Dana White, after knocking out Bruno Korea on Dana White’s Contender Series. During his post-fight press conference, he felt on-edge and nervous before ultimately getting the highlight finish in the octagon.

In the second fight of Week 2, Vergara pressured Korea with a barrage of strikes from range and in the clinch. A series of brutal knees to the body forced Korea to fall to the canvas as Vergara walked away with the TKO win in just 41 seconds.

Obviously, it was a gigantic moment for the former Fury FC champion, as Vergara attempted to take it all in on what he had just accomplished.

“When I got out of that cage, I was just awestruck and just overwhelmed by the experience,” Vergara said. “By just getting the knockout as quick as I did, come out unscathed, and interview with Laura Sanko. As the hours have passed, I feel like I’m exactly where I belong. I’m present, I’m here now.”

CJ Vergara could be a star in the making at flyweight

As the fighters and the fans awaited White’s announcement on which fighters earned UFC contracts, Vergara was one of the easy picks for the shot on the big stage. White praised Vergara’s toughness and was excited to add him to an extremely deep talent pool in the flyweight division.

After his impressive win, the sky is the limit for Vergara. He suffered little damage in his short fight and probably won’t have to wait long to make his UFC debut.
