DWCS: Chidi Njokuani ‘flipped the switch’ after suffering multiple low blows in KO win (Video)

Chidi Njokuani displayed heart and toughness after suffered a couple of low blows en route to his knockout win on Dana White’s Contender Series.

Chidi Njokuani is an MMA veteran with a wide variety of experience in major promotions such as Bellator and LFA, but he hadn’t quite earned an opportunity to fight in the UFC. After his incredible TKO win over Mario Sousa on Dana White’s Contender Series, Njokuani has earned the opportunity he’s desperately hoped for during his professional career.

It wasn’t an easy outing for Njokuani, who had to power through multiple groin strikes by Sousa early on in the fight. During his post-fight press conference, Njokuani described pushing past adversity and impressing UFC president Dana White with his toughness.

Njokuani had earned a spot on DWCS after a violent knockout over Cristhian Torres at LFA 91 and wasn’t going to let a couple of low blows stop him from achieving his goal.

“Mentally, it’s hard but you gotta flip that switch back on,” Njokuani said. “It’s tough to push through that. No pun intended, but I showed some balls in there. This is a good way to show that I put in the work to get here and it’s not going to be an easy route for me.”

“No matter what route I have to take, I’m going for it.”

Chidi Njokuani hopes to continue his family’s MMA legacy

Njokuani earned a UFC contract from White after battling big names such as Andrey Koreshkov and Melvin Guillard in Bellator. Now, Njokuani could make his UFC debut against another familiar name and add another middleweight prospect to the division.

He is the younger brother of former UFC lightweight Anthony Njokuani, who like his brother Chidi overwhelmed his opponent with grit and high-volume striking. It’s been a long road to the big stage, but Njokuani plans on making the most of this tremendous opportunity.
