UFC Vegas 35: Giga Chikadze enjoying the experience ahead of his first UFC main event (Video)
UFC featherweight contender Giga Chikadze is taking it all in ahead of the big stage of his first UFC main event at UFC Vegas 35.
Giga Chikadze has had quite the roller coaster ride in the UFC ahead of his first promotional main event at UFC Vegas 35 against Edson Barboza. From losing on Dana White’s Contender Series, to his most recent knockout over UFC veteran Cub Swanson, it hasn’t always been easy for the Georgian.
But ahead of his fight with Barboza, he’s feeling the pressure of competing in his first featherweight main event; but he doesn’t feel that will be to his detriment in the UFC octagon.
Chikadze is one of the hottest featherweights in the UFC right now; with eight straight wins including four finishes. Chikadze, well-known for his kickboxing, also has sneaky submission skills that have forced his opponents into frustrating challenges.
During his UFC Vegas 35 pre-fight press conference, Chikadze says he’s seizing the moment of his first UFC main event and is excited for the opportunity to compete on one of the biggest stages in the sport.
“When I found out about the fight, I got excited but also a little bit nervous,” Chikadze said. “I want to make my country proud. But, I’m enjoying it. When I’m enjoying it and when I’m happy, that’s when I’m the most dangerous guy in the cage.”
Chikadze faces by far his toughest test to date in Barboza; one of the best strikers in the UFC who has made the transition from lightweight to featherweight almost seamlessly. Barboza is also coming off a brutal knockout against Shane Burgos at UFC 262 that shocked the MMA world after Burgos fell to the canvas in an unusually delayed reaction to a hard strike.

After defeating Swanson, Chikadze called out some of the biggest names in the featherweight division; including the former champion Max Holloway. Chikadze still has an opportunity to get that fight down the line if he’s able to put on another impressive performance against Barboza.
MMA fans will be in for quite the treat as two elite strikers enter the UFC octagon in the main event of UFC Vegas 35.
