UFC Vegas 34: Who is Josiane Nunes?

Get a glimpse of bantamweight newcomer, Josiane Nunes.

Josiane Nunes becomes one of the latest additions to the UFC bantamweight roster. Nunes currently sits at 7-1 as a professional and will make her promotional debut against Bea Malecki as part of the UFC Vegas 34 prelims Saturday night. She was originally scheduled to compete at UFC Vegas 24 before her opponent, Zarah Farin dos Santos, missed weight the day before the bout.

Nunes currently rides a six-fight win streak that dates back to Aug. 2015. In a six-year period, Nunes has dispatched the likes of Areane Monteiro, Ariele Riberto, and Juliana Araujo, to name a few. Five of her six victories have come via KO/TKO, with two first-round and three second-round finishes, respectively.

Nunes’ lone loss came in Nov. 2013, where she was on the wrong end of a unanimous decision against DWCS alum and current flyweight, Talia Santos.

Nunes has only seen the judges twice in her career, as all of her other bouts have been early stoppages. She has never needed the third round to finish a fight thus far in her young career.

Who is Bea Malecki?

Malecki is the one to welcome Nunes to the UFC. She currently sits at 4-0 and is making her third Octagon appearance. In four bouts, she has finished three of them, with two submissions and one KO. Malecki has defeated the likes of Faith Davis, Tracy Smith, and most recently, Veronica Macedo, at UFC 262 in May. Her only decision win came in that fight, as she won a one-sided affair against Macedo.

Will Nunes continue her winning ways or will Malecki remain undefeated? The world will find out Saturday night from Las Vegas.
