Bellator lightweight Chris Gonzalez is willing to challenge Goiti Yamauchi’s tricky ground game at Bellator 263.
Bellator lightweight prospect Chris Gonzalez is no stranger to adversity on the ground during his MMA career, and he’s willing to challenge jiu-jitsu specialist Goiti Yamauchi at his own game at Bellator 263 this weekend.
Gonzalez has passed every test in front of him so far in his MMA career, going 6-0 and showcasing elite wrestling to go along with brutal ground-and-pound striking. A member of the well-known Team Alpha Male gym in Sacramento, CA, Gonzalez has gotten the opportunity to train with the likes of former UFC bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt and MMA veteran Urijah Faber.
Despite coming in as the relatively unknown fighter against Yamauchi, Gonzalez is supremely confident ahead of the matchup.
“I’m more than a wrestler, and he’s more than just a jiu-jitsu guy,” Gonzalez said during his Bellator 263 pre-fight press conference. “If he wants to body-triangle me, go for it. You’re just putting me in a dominant position to get off my ground-and-pound. I can win this fight in a variety of ways.”
Chris Gonzalez is looking to make a statement at Bellator 263
Gonzalez isn’t the only one coming in with plenty to prove at Bellator 263. Yamauchi is coming off a controversial, split-decision loss to Dan Moret at Bellator 256 earlier this year. Before that, he had won his previous three fights with two of them coming by way of submission.
Gonzalez could potentially become a dark horse in the Bellator lightweight division if he’s able to get past Yamauchi, and could then move one step closer to a title shot down the line.
Bellator 263 takes place on July 31, 2021, live from Forum in Los Angeles, CA. Follow along with FanSided who is cageside for all your live news and highlights.
