UFC Vegas 23: Marvin Vettori dominates Kevin Holland in decision
The takedowns and control of Marvin Vettori was simply too much for Kevin Holland to handle.
Marvin Vettori may have now established himself as a potential name to challenge Israel Adesanya for the UFC middleweight title, as he completely outperformed Kevin Holland in a five-round unanimous decision in the UFC Vegas 23 main event.
Like Holland’s fight with Derek Brunson a couple of weeks ago, Vettori focused on using his grappling prowess to defeat Holland, and he even did more damage by busting up Holland’s face early on.

After needing some time less than a minute in after getting hit below the belt, Vettori attempted to neutralize Holland’s power by backing him up to the cage. Both men had their moments in terms of striking in a close, competitive round one.
Vettori managed to get Holland to the ground early in the second round and spent the frame landing ground-and-pound. Holland got back to his feet with just about a minute left in the second, but Vettori took him down again from behind.
With Holland already damaged from a cut around his eye, Vettori easily took him back down again to open the third. Vettori managed to get into mount and locked in an arm-triangle. Vettori had it in tight but had to let it go, with Holland managing to get back to his feet. Vettori tagged Holland again and quickly got the fight back to the ground. Holland got back up but Vettori controlled the action whenever they were in the clinch; though Holland did land his fair share in the closing seconds.
The two traded heavy shots to start the fourth frame, but soon enough, Vettori got Holland down once more in another complete overwhelming dominance of a round.
Vettori appeared to be stunned by a straight from Holland at the start of the fifth, but Vettori turned things around and took Holland down, once again showing that he and Holland seem to be in two different leagues, with “The Italian Dream” sweeping the judges’ scorecards.
Following the fight, Vettori called for a rematch with Adesanya, who Vettori dropped a split decision to in 2018.
