There are plenty of moments that make MMA fans shake their heads and say “Only in MMA.” And while injuries are commonplace in this sport, something like what took place at CFFC 94 can never be something one grows numb to.

At the event, which took place on April 1 in Philadelphia, Khetag Pliev took on Devin Goodale in the evening’s co-main event.

Things appeared to be normal like any MMA fight until the fighters went to their corners following the second round. And it was there where Pliev and his team noticed that one of Pliev’s fingers had been completely torn off of his hand.

Even worse, no one knew where it was. Per TSN’s Aaron Bronsteter, an announcement had to be put over the PA system to explain to fans about the missing finger.

Needless to say, the fight was stopped after this injury — and calling this an injury is quite the understatement.

There’s no exact information as to how Pliev’s finger was removed cleanly off his hand. Some suspect the detachment may have occurred at some point after Goodale pulled on the now missing finger of Pliev’s during an exchange.

Scary breaks and gruesome injuries can happen in this sport, whether it’s fighters’ ears getting torn (Lukasz Borowski, Johnny Campbell and Ramiz Brahimaj), or a fighter breaks a bone (like Anderson Silva and Sidy Rocha). But a finger that went gone completely? That’s something else.

Goodale now improves his MMA record to 4-0 after not competing for two years.

Pliev, who was making his first appearance in CFFC, falls to 5-2.
