Belal Muhammad reacts to Leon Edwards rematch snub

Nate Diaz vs. Leon Edwards leaves Belal Muhammad unsuccessful in request for rematch with Edwards.

In a time where the UFC world is being shaken up by recent major headlines, another bomb was dropped on the evening of March 30, when it was reported that Nate Diaz will return against Leon Edwards at UFC 262 in what will be the first-ever non-title five-round co-main event in the promotion’s history.

While Diaz gets a major fight for his return and Edwards gets a big fight he’s desired, Belal Muhammad is left unfulfilled after desiring a chance to run it back with Edwards.

Muhammad, however, took to Twitter following the report of Diaz vs. Edwards, hinting that he’ll be there should Diaz be unable to fight Edwards.

Belal Muhammad warns Leon Edwards he’ll stay ready for a potential rematch following Diaz vs. Edwards report

Edwards and Muhammad met in the main event of UFC Vegas 21 on March 13. It marked Edwards’ first fight in just over a year-and-a-half, and Muhammad filled in as a short-notice opponent following Khamzat Chimaev’s continued struggle with COVID-19.

The fight ultimately ended in a no-contest when an accidental eye poke by Edwards, mere seconds into the second round, left Muhammad with a brutal eye injury.

Since then, Muhammad had pushed for the chance to finish his business with Edwards, while Edwards — though calling the ending “heartbreaking” — seemed to desire other options.

Diaz vs. Edwards will mark Diaz’s first fight in the UFC since a pair of fights he had in 2019. Diaz defeated Anthony Pettis at UFC 241 before falling short at UFC 244 in a BMF title fight with Jorge Masvidal.

UFC 262 will be headlined by a lightweight title fight between Michael Chandler and Charles Oliveira.
