Cynthia Vescan recently signed with the Professional Fighters League.
Cynthia Vescan, a two-time french Olympian is the latest signee of the Professional Fighters League. The signing, which was announced via the league’s website touts Vescan’s abilities citing her trips to the Olympics with the French Olympic team as a member of the heavyweight division. She finished 12th in 2012 and 16th in 2016 but captured the bronze medal at the 2018 European Championships before shifting her focus more directly to MMA.
The 29-year-old athlete is widely considered one of the most talented freestyle wrestlers in the world and is a huge get for the young promotion. She began training for Olympic-style wrestling at the age of seven and has said that she grew interested in training with MMA before her appearance at the 2016 Olympics but had to put those aspirations on hold for the games.
While there is plenty of footage on YouTube of her grappling ability one big question mark with Vescan is what if any striking ability does she possess? With no clear gym taking responsibility for her training as of press time it is hard to speculate on how or even if she will be able to stand toe to toe with the talented women of the PFL.
Another huge question mark for the rookie fighter is who she will make her debut against. While no date has been announced for the Olympians debut with the organization she has stated that she is excited to get started.
“My goal at the PFL is to be the best, compete for the one million dollar prize, and to continue making positive changes in my life, I still have things to do in sport! I am excited to make my debut in MMA with the Professional Fighters League.”
Unlike other professional MMA organizations, The Professional Fighters League operates on a season structure. The first event of the season PFL 1 will take place on Friday, April 23, and will feature the debut of Anthony Pettis.
