Get to know DWCS alumni Drako Rodriguez ahead of his UFC debut on Saturday night from the APEX in Las Vegas. Rodriguez is currently 7-1.
Bantamweight Drako Rodriguez will make his UFC debut on Saturday in the promotion’s second event of the month. Rodriguez burst onto the scene after defeating Leomana Martinez via first-round triangle choke during the sixth week of Dana White’s Contender Series in Sept. of 2020, as the show was in the midst of its fourth season.
Rodriguez improved to 7-1 overall, as he increased his win streak to three-straight, which dates back to Jan. 2019. The One Combat Academy product has only seen the judges once throughout his career thus far and has finished six of his wins by KO/TKO or submission, with five of those finishes coming inside of the first-round.
Prior to his DWCS appearance, Rodriguez competed in King of the Cage, a long-time MMA promotion that has seen some of the sport’s best move up the ladder into the big show.
Rodriguez’s first official test will be against fellow prospect, Aiemann Zahabi. Both men will compete on the fourth fight of a 12-fight event, exclusively on ESPN+.
Who is fellow bantamweight Aiemann Zahabi?
Zahabi is 7-2 as a professional and is the younger brother of Tristar Gym head trainer, Firas Zehabi. Aiemann has had a rough start to his UFC tenure, having lost back-to-back outings against Vince Morales and Ricardo Ramos. His last victory came in his promotional debut against Reginaldo Vieira in Feb. 2017, winning via unanimous decision.
Will Rodriguez look to make it four-straight or will Zahabi get back to his winning ways? The world will soon find out.
