UFC 257: Lightweight Ottman Azaitar is the fighter to watch
Undefeated lightweight prospect Ottman Azaitar is the fighter to watch this weekend at UFC 257.
Lightweight Ottman Azaitar will look to extend his undefeated streak to 14 on Saturday when he takes on Matt Frevola on the main card at UFC 257.
An electric striker, Azaitar has trained in the art of Muay Thai since an early age, even winning titles in his native Germany in Thai boxing. Prior to signing with the Ultimate Fighting Championship, Azaitar compiled a 4-0 record with Middle Eastern promotion Brave Combat Federation. Azaitar captured the Brave CF lightweight title before winning another bout at welterweight. Azaitar was signed by the UFC in 2019 and is currently 2-0 during his tenure, with back-to-back knockout victories over Teemu Packalen and Khama Worthy. Both knockouts also earned him performance of the night bonuses.
Azaitar has yet to taste defeat in his professional mixed martial arts career, and for good reason. Of his 13 professional bouts, only three have gone past the first round. Azaitar has only gone the distance once in his entire career and has ten wins by knockout, with the other two coming via submission. If you’re a fan of high-level striking, Azaitar is one of the fighters to watch.
He is also the younger brother of UFC middleweight Abu Azaitar.
Who will Ottman Azaitar take on at UFC 257?
Although Azaitar has found success in the UFC’s Octagon, this next bout against Frevola will certainly be his stiffest test to date. Frevola is 8-1-1 in his career and has a knack for finding ways to win. After winning his Contender Series debut, Frevola dropped his official UFC debut to Marco Polo Reyes, but has yet to lose since. The New York native fought to a draw against Lando Vannata prior to winning his last two bouts versus Jalin Turner and Luis Pena.
Frevola is just a guy who won’t quit and won’t stop coming forward unless you put him out, surely a quality that Azaitar would like to see given his extensive striking background. If Azaitar can come away with a stoppage win here and remain unbeaten, especially on a McGregor PPV card, he will most likely see a significant jump up in competition.
Tune into the UFC 257 main card to see how Azaitar fairs in his fight and whether or not his record remains unblemished. Azaitar currently sits as a -160 betting favorite, with Frevola coming back at +130.
