3 people Jorge Masvidal should fight besides Colby Covington

Jorge Masvidal is still awaiting his next opponent and there are a few fighters worth mentioning other than Colby Covington.

Since his loss to welterweight champion Kamaru Usman at UFC 251, fans have been clamoring for a fight between bitter rivals Jorge Masvidal and Colby Covington. This fight seems to make the most sense as both fighters are coming off losses to the champion and a win over the other should put them right back into title contention. However, Masvidal is one of the biggest stars in the sport and has many other exciting matchups besides Covington. Here are three fighters that Masvidal should fight other than Covington

Leon Edwards

From a UFC rankings perspective, a fight between Leon Edwards and Masvidal actually makes more sense than a fight with Covington. With Edwards and Masvidal currently ranked third and fourth in the UFC welterweight division, this looks like the fight. Edwards is on an incredible eight fight winning streak and actively calling out Masvidal after Khamzat Chimaev pulled out of their scheduled contest at UFC Fight Island 8 due to COVID-19. Masvidal is certainly no stranger to taking short notice fights and a win would put either man next in line for a welterweight championship bout.

Stephen Thompson

Stephen Thompson was the last man other than Usman to hand Masvidal a loss. But a lot has changed since their first bout in late 2017 and I would be interested to see how both men would fare in a rematch. Masvidal has since changed his approach to fighting and has racked up three stoppage wins in just four fights. Both men have crowd-pleasing styles and Thompson has enough popularity for this bout to come to fruition. Thompson is coming off a win over Geoff Neal and currently ranked fifth in the UFC welterweight rankings. A rematch between the NMF and the BMF could also put either man back in the title picture.

Jake Paul

Just Kidding.

Nick Diaz

Why? Because if Nick Diaz does make his long-awaited return in 2021 he is going to need a dance partner willing to match his popularity and fighting style. There is no denying the popularity of the Diaz brothers and with Masvidal beating Nate Diaz in late 2019, this fight has every ingredient needed to be one of the biggest and most exciting fights in UFC history.
