UFC Vegas 17: Khaos Williams is the fighter to watch
Khaos Williams is our fighter watch for at UFC Vegas 17 on Saturday night, live on ESPN+.
The final UFC card of 2020 is shaping up to be one of the more exciting non-pay-per-view events the promotion has offered this year. UFC Vegas 17 on ESPN+ is loaded from head to toe, and while every fight has something to look forward to, you won’t want to leave your seat when Khaos Williams steps into the cage.
Williams put the UFC welterweight division on notice last month at UFC Vegas 14 when he made light work of rising prospect Abdul Razak Alhassan. Williams handed Alhassan his first professional loss, knocking him out with a vicious right hand just 30 seconds into the fight. Surprisingly, his 30-second tilt with Alhassan is the longest fight of his UFC career. His only other bout in the promotion, a knockout victory over Alex Morono, lasted just 27 seconds.
For Williams, who is currently 2-0 in the UFC and riding an eight-fight win streak, Saturday night at UFC Vegas 17 could be another first-round finish. If his previous bouts under the UFC banner hint at anything, you’ll want to be in your seat from the moment the cage doors close.
How does Khaos Williams matchup with his opponent, Michel Pereira?
In Williams’ case, it’s tough to wonder how he matches up with the rest of the promotion’s outside-looking-in welterweights – he knocks everyone out before he’s required to showcase his other skillsets. What we do know, is that the man he’ll share the cage with at UFC Vegas 17, Michel Pereira, is capable of finishing opponents wherever the fight takes him.
Though Williams is certainly the fighter with more hype and maybe even more momentum, Pereira could very well be on a two-fight win streak of his own. He dominated Diego Sanchez earlier this year but was disqualified from the use of an illegal knee in the third round. He doesn’t enter UFC Vegas 17 coming off a loss, however, as his last bout was a submission victory over Zelim Imadaev at UFC Vegas 9 in September.
At 27 years old, Pereira is a youthful veteran of the sport. Over 35 professional fights, he’s earned 24 victories, nine of which have come by stoppage. Yes, Williams is our fighter to watch at UFC Vegas 17, but you can’t watch one without getting a glimpse of the other. Williams vs. Pereira is sure to bring fireworks on Saturday night.
UFC Vegas 17 takes place on Saturday, Dec. 19, 2020, live from UFC Apex in Las Vegas, NV. Follow along with FanSided, who is on-site, for all your live news and highlights.
