Week 10 of the NFL regular season is here. Keep a close eye on these five matchups this weekend if you want to see the best the league has to offer.
The NFL regular season has officially reached its midpoint and the race to the Super Bowl is more competitive than ever. The expanded playoffs give more teams a fighting chance to reach the postseason than ever. That should lead to more competitive games down the stretch than we’ve seen in previous years.
That does not mean the picture of which teams in the league are truly elite has changed. The Chiefs, Ravens, and Steelers sit atop the mountain in the AFC in the minds of most NFL experts. The same can be said for the Saints, Packers, and Seahawks in the NFC.
There’s still a lot of ground to cover though. Keep a close eye on these five matchups if you want to really learn a lot in Week 10.
5. Joe Burrow vs. Minkah Fitzpatrick
Admittedly, the Bengals will have to find a way to protect Burrow against Pittsburgh’s ferocious front for this battle to really materialize. If Cincinnati can provide their rookie signal-caller a modicum of protection, he’s going to engage in an intriguing duel with Fitzpatrick for four quarters.
The genius of Fitzpatrick’s game is that he can play at a high level both at the line of scrimmage and in coverage deep down the field. Burrow will try to read his intentions by where he lines up every play.
The Steelers coaching staff does an excellent job of disguising what they want Fitzpatrick to do on a per snap basis. That will present Burrow with arguably the biggest mental challenge of his young career.
This game shouldn’t be close, but the mental chess match between Fitzpatrick and Burrow should be fun to watch. It’s going to be a great learning experience for the rookie quarterback.
